Obituary of Katherine Jean Freeman
Katherine Jean Freeman (née Miller), a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 28th, 2023, in Denver, Colorado. Born on October 17, 1950, in Cumberland, Wisconsin, Katie was a person of resilient spirit, navigating both adventure and adversity with grace.
Katie is survived by her two sons, Paul and Patrick Freeman (married to Donnell, father to Declyn and Delaney), and her brother, Kurt Miller. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Babe Miller, and her sister, Anne Miller.
Katie grew up in Wisconsin, where she cultivated her adventurous spirit from a young age. Her 20s were a whirlwind of exploration, as she traveled extensively throughout the United States. Settling in Portland, Oregon and marrying John Freeman, they brought two wonderful sons into the world, although their paths would later diverge.
Finding her calling in her 30s, Katie devoted herself to a career in social work, touching countless lives with her kindness and wisdom. Eventually, she retired to Denver, where her spirit found further expression through her art.
Katie was an avid animal lover, caring for an array of pets throughout her life, from dogs and cats to other small companions. Her love for art manifested in striking drawings and paintings, while her passion for stories found its outlet in movies and reading. Travel and adventure continued to be a thread woven through all stages of her life.
She was, as her sons can attest, a beautiful person who lived a full and wondrous life. Katie leaves behind a legacy of kindness, empathy, and a resilient spirit that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you honor Katie’s memory by reaching out to someone in need, as she so often did throughout her life.
