Obituary of Alena Dolejs Bullock

Alena was born in Prague, Czech Republic. During her childhood in Czechia, and under the German occupaƟon during the Second World War, she became fluent in Czech, German and Russian, and selected business as her field of study.

AŌer the war, scholarship enabled her to travel in the European part of the USSR, study in England and earn a Master of Science degree in Business from Syracuse University, NY. While studying in the doctoral program, she was hired by the United NaƟons in New York City. Her first assignment was as an assistant to the Russian editor and later she worked in the Bureau of Social Affairs, providing help to underdeveloped countries.

She married Donald Beckwith Bullock, an electrical engineer, a member of the technical staff of Bell Telephone Laboratories. When he was transferred from New York City, she resigned from the U.N. and followed him to New Jersey. There Alena joined the faculty of Monmouth Community College. While teaching in the College, she received a Fulbright Fellowship in India, was a visiƟng scholar in Japan and South Korea, and served as a NaƟonal EducaƟon AssociaƟon delegate in China. AŌer becoming a Full Professor of Business and Management she taught short business and management courses in many foreign countries and was responsible for the InternaƟonal Business Program as well as the Travel and Tourism program at the College.

During her 59-year marriage, both she and Don enjoyed personal travel adventures, leading educaƟonal travel groups, and water sports.

Alena is survived by her daughter, Norma; son-in-law, Del; grandchildren, Nina and Chad; and greatgrandson, Colin.
