Obituary of Mary Ann Gillespie

Mary Ann Gillespie passed away on June 26, 2023, while in hospice care at the age of 95. She is survived by her two sons Terry and Sean Gillespie and daughter Kathy Hruby. 

Mary Ann was born on March 15, 1928, to Ralph Ellis Tolson and Margaret Martha (Ash) Tolson in Youngstown, Ohio.  Both her sister Margaret and brother Raymond predeceased her. 

Mary Ann married John (Jack) Francis Gillespie on January 26, 1952. She completed her Master’s degree in English with a minor in French.  She enjoyed living in remote areas of the western united states as John designed bridges including a three year stay in Yellowstone National Park.  Mary Ann and Jack settled down in Golden, Colorado to raise their family. 

 Mary Ann is survived not only by her three children but by five grandchildren Stephen, Brandon and Christopher Hruby, Sydney and Jack Gillespie. Additionally, she will be missed by her son-in-law James Hruby and daughter-in-law Sharon Jankovsky. She welcomed her great granddaughter Hadley Hruby, daughter of Brandon and Colleen (Long) Hruby earlier this year.   Additionally, she is survived by two nieces Maureen and Annie Gillespie. 

Mary Ann shared her love of reading by working as a librarian in the Jefferson County Library System.  She has encouraged many children to love books and reading.   

She will be interred at Fort Logan joining the love of her life Jack.
