Obituary of Joseph L Montano

With great sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Montano (Joe) of Castle Rock, CO, at the age of 81, on June 16, 2023.  Joe passed away after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. 

Joe is survived by his life partner and wife of 61 years, Judith (Judy) of Castle Rock; his son Darrell Montano and his wife Debbie of Morrison, his daughter Dr. Jolene R. Montano of Las Vegas, Nevada, his son Joey Montano of Parker, his grandson Garrett Durkee and his wife Yuan of NingBo, China, and his grandson Brenton Durkee of Brooklyn, NY. Joe is also survived by his brother Charles Montano of Anchorage, Alaska.  And best dog friend Ginger, who looked after him faithfully every day.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Emeline, Virginia and Sally. 

Joe was born in Redcliff, Colorado; he was the 4th child and 1st son to Frank A Montano and Rafaella N Montano.  The family moving to the Denver area when he was a child, graduating from West High School in 1960, where he met his forever sweetheart Judy.  They were married 1 year later, Dec 9, 1961.

 When his number came up for the draft, he enlisted in the US Navy, and served his country from 1960 to 1964, transferred to Reserves and released to non- active duty.  After his duty tour, Joe returned home to Denver, working in construction to support his young family.  Starting at the bottom and rising to later own and operate his own company, consulting, installing and maintaining of Air Supported Structures all over the world, including The Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.

Joe’s favorite sport was golf, he was an avid golfer and would sneak off every chance he could get to play a round and have a few beers with the guys.

Joe will be remembered at a Military Funeral Honor Ceremony to be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, on Wed July 12, 2023, promptly starting at 1:30 pm, at Shelter Area B.  Guest attending should arrive at 1:15 pm, meeting at Staging Area B. to proceed to ceremony.
