Marian Irene Griffen

Marian Irene Griffen was born July 29, 1930, to Edgar and Mary Barr of
Boulder, Colorado.

Marian was raised in Boulder with her two sisters,
Margery and Gene. After graduating from Boulder High School, she entered
the University of Colorado at Boulder where she met her future husband,
Edward Griffen.

They married on June 24, 1951. Ed’s first job after his
graduation took them to Seattle, Washington, where Marian continued her
education at the University of Washington, earning her undergraduate
degree in dietetics. After three years, the couple moved back to Colorado,
where Marian enjoyed a 40-year career in dietetics which included teaching
at Front Range and Metro State Community Colleges and working at Tri-
County Health Department and several hospitals in the Denver area. She
completed another degree in gerontology at the University of Northern
Colorado Greeley at the age of 52.

Marian enjoyed church activities, mission
trips, traveling, painting, gardening, and spending time with family and
friends. She lost her husband in 2012 after almost 62 years of marriage.


Marian passed away June 13, 2023, at Collier Hospice House, Wheat Ridge,
Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband and both sisters. She
is survived by her four sons, Mark (Elaine), David, Lynn (Cheryl), and Lee
(Cathy); eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.


A memorial service will be held on July 21 at 3 p.m. in Smith Hall, Covenant
Living, 9153 Yarrow Street, Westminster, Colorado. She will be laid to rest
next to her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.
