Obituary of Norman J. Meswarb

Norman J. (Norm) Meswarb, DDS of Wheat Ridge, CO passed away peacefully on April 12, 2023 of dementia-related causes. He was 90 years old.

Norm was born August 27, 1932 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Arthur Edward Meswarb and Alice Annette Johnson Meswarb. He attended Cedar Falls High School, Iowa State Teachers College, and the University of Iowa Dental School. He was stationed in Japan for two years as a dentist in the Air Force.

In 1960, Norm married Dorothy Root, also from Cedar Falls. They moved to the Denver area shortly thereafter and settled in Arvada and then Wheat Ridge. Norm and Dorothy had four children: Julie Lynn, Douglas Root, Stephen James, and Nancy Sue.

Norm and Dorothy divorced in 1979, and Norm married Carol Toussaint Carlberg in 1980. Norm and Carol lived happily together in Wheat Ridge until Carol’s passing in October 2019.

Norm practiced family dentistry in Wheat Ridge and Lakewood for over 40 years. Norm and Carol were active in the Wheat Ridge Congregational Church of the United Church of Christ and sang in the Colorado Chorale for well over 30 years.

After retirement, Norm and Carol traveled all over the United States and Canada in their mobile home, often spending two months or more of each summer on the road.

Norm is survived by his four children, Julie Smith (Jim), Douglas (Elizabeth), Stephen, and Nancy, his two stepsons George Carlberg (Colleen) and Neil Carlberg (Beth), and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norm is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, stepson Bruce Carlberg, step-grandson Taylor Carlberg, and brothers Carmon and David.

Services will be held on July 8th, 2023 at 11:00am at the Wheat Ridge Congregational Church, 6310 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge.
