Obituary of Karl Richard Kliewer

Karl Richard "Rich" Kliewer, 82 of Castle Rock, Colorado passed away March 6th, 2023, just shy of his 83rd birthday with close family by his side.

He was born March 18, 1940, to Karl & Clara (Taves) Kliewer in Wichita, Kansas.  He grew up in Topeka, Kansas with his older sister Susan and his dog Hutch. He was athletic, active in scouts and played the cornet.  Rich met his future wife, Karen thru his sister at Topeka High School. Rich went on to get a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Kansas.  His work ethic and loyalty to his country led him to enlist in the Army National Guard, and then to the Army where he was deployed to Vietnam for 15 months,  1968-1969 where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He worked 40+ years as a successful telecom executive living in Kansas, California, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Virginia, eventually ending up near the mountains in Colorado and his grandchildren to retire.

In his spare time Rich loved to enjoy and explore the serenity and scenic beauty of the Colorado mountains; tactical climbing, 4-wheel drive trails, biking, hiking and vacationing in remote cabins or near train tracks, always with his binoculars and maps. He was happiest viewing trains or tinkering with his own model trains and enjoying his grandsons, a good view, nice meal and a cold drink.

Rich is predeceased by his parents and sister Susan (Kliewer) & Roy Gallagher (Brother-in-law).  Rich is survived by his wife and two sons David Kliewer and Justin (and Jen) Kliewer and three grandsons.
