Obituary of Mary Estes Johnson

Mary Estes Johnson 

Mary Estes Johnson passed away suddenly in her sleep at her home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on December 7^th, 2022. 

Mary was predeceased by her husband, James Johnson, and her son Erik Johnson.  She was also predeceased by her parents, Deloit and Elizabeth Estes, and her brothers, David and Johnny Estes.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristin Johnson and her sister, Nancy George, as well as her grandchildren, Matthew, Grace and Zachary.  She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Barbara, David, Lisa and Rob.

Mary was born in Chicago, adopted as a baby, and grew up in Glen Elyn, Illinois.  Her childhood was happy and busy, running around with her brother Dave and sister Nancy.  After graduating high school, Mary found a job with City Service Oil in Chicago, which was a 25-mile train ride every day.  She loved and thrived in her job and, upon being offered a transfer to Denver, took the opportunity immediately.

She met James in Denver, and they married on October 3^rd, 1959.  They were married until his passing in 2016.

Mary was always busy, outgoing and social.  She worked many jobs throughout the years, was involved with the schools and school band, had many friendships, many of which lasted for decades.  She was active in a sorority for many years, with which she was always busy with activities, trips and fun.  She also loved swimming and was part of a swimming group for many years. 

She was always an animal lover and there was always at least one pet in the house. 

She was loyal and loving and was always there for those she loved. She will always be missed and loved by those she leaves behind.

Mary’s Celebration of Life Service will be on May 5^th, 2023, at the VFW Post 9644 on 2680 West Hampden Ave, Englewood, CO, from 2:00-5:00.
