Obituary of Richard Joseph Scheer

Richard Joseph Scheer of Arvada, at age 90, passed away peacefully in his home on August 29, 2020. Richard was born on September 19, 1929 to Leo and Gertrude Scheer in Roggen, CO. He served in the Navy on a Submarine in the 1940s. He was a member of the Denver Police Department for 31 years, where he held many different roles including: Patrolman, K-9 Unit, Motorcycle Officer and Trainer, and the highlight of his career, starting the Mounted Horse Patrol, where he trained horses and riders. He also volunteered for Jefferson County Mounted Horse Patrol for 33 years. Richard enjoyed spending time in the mountains with family and friends where he camped, hunted, and fished. He spent most of his summers on horseback riding in the Rocky Mountains.

Richard, you brought life and laughter everywhere you went with your bright spirit and constant story telling. You impacted the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know you. You will be greatly missed, and your legend will live on in our hearts forever.

Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years Patty Scheer; his daughter Lara Knight with children Cassidy and Caden; his son Justin Scheer and wife Jenny Scheer with children Jacob and Jessica; son Matthew Scheer with children Sienna and Reanna, and son Thomas Scheer and wife Paula Scheer.

There will be a private service held at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate in the name of Richard Scheer to the following foundations: Denver Police Officers Foundation or the Denver Police Widows and Children Fund 700 W 39th Ave Denver, CO 80216 Attn. J.C. Tyus Jr.

All are welcome to join, as we honor the man who dedicated his life to serve and protect others, at his celebration of life on Saturday, October 17th, 2020 at Justin and Jenny’s home from 2pm – 8pm.
