Obituary of Kris Lee Hernbloom
At the age of 72, after a heroic, untimely battle with pancreatic cancer, Kris passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by love, family, and his sweet dog, Hector.
Kris was the son of Gordon Eugene & Ladene Marie. He was born in Denver, grew up in Greeley, and lived most of his life in Longmont. As a life-long learner, historian, & humanitarian he pursued multiple degrees in psychology, education, and history at the University of Colorado & University of Northern Colorado. As an advocate, he worked with Niwot Mental Health, facilitating the Friendship Club, and spent many years managing a convenience store in Longmont, both of which led to life-long friendships.
Kris practiced Buddhism and was a member of the Boulder Shambhala Center. You could find Kris immersed in a novel, exploring art museums, enjoying classical and rock music, reveling in time with his family, talking strategy about the Broncos & his NFL picks with his son, watching a Rockies game, debating politics, enjoying great food, delicious beer, & award-winning movies, or caught red-handed sharing his food with his pets. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, great friendships, and loving, gentle, joyous spirit. More than anything, he loved deeply, with his whole-heart, and gave selflessly to anyone in need.
He is survived by his children Jeff (Andrea), Katy (Matt); grandchildren Reggie, Skylar, Kristal, Landyn, Aspen; brother Robert; niece Laura (Josh); nephew Robby (Tammy); pets Hector, Juno; and many other relatives, friends, and furry creatures.
A service & reception will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Boulder Shambhala Center, 1345 Spruce St, Boulder, CO 80302.To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Kris Hernbloom, please visit Tribute Store
